According to research, self-driving cars and trucks could account for as much as 70% of U.S vehicle sales. That’s really good news. But autopilot cars are basically run by computers. The fact still exists that computers crash all the time. Aside from that, computers are hacked almost every day. Ask yourself, “Can autopilot cars ever really be safe?” The answer to this question is “No.” They can never really be safe. However, chances are they will be safer. Check out these facts why autopilot cars can be safer. Humans are Highly Critical
Almost 90% of all the traffic accidents are caused by human error. This is due to the untimely expression of anger, aggression, and road rage while driving. Drunk -driving accidents accounted for 29% of the total vehicle fatalities in 2015. The rest of the percentage is caused by distracted driving. If humans are removed from driving, there will be a dramatic reduction to vehicle fatalities. The Beginning of a Case Last May 2016, an old man died while he was driving a Tesla in Autopilot mode on a Florida highway. He was the first person to have died because of an autopilot car. After that incident, rage against the vehicle quickly followed. There were many questions about the inclusion of the nascent tech. Everyone expected that the investigation would point out the software glitch, but it was not. The investigation revealed that a safety-related defect caused the accident. In short, the car didn’t crash. It was noted that autopilot cars reduced the percentage of road accidents compared with human-driven cars. Hacks and Crashes Some researchers discovered that the Tesla Model S was hacked into the car. It is a significant scenario since it is the first time someone remotely hacked tesla. The Palmer Group stated that every digital touch point is prone to hacking and it’s going to be a never-ending battle. For computer crashes, it is possible that a computer that runs an autopilot car to crash, but that happens infrequently. It makes you significantly safer in an autopilot vehicle if you are driving yourself. Assessing Risks Humans are not good at assessing risk. If you don’t have a brake pedal or gas pedal, you will start to feel helpless. But, thousands of people will not die or get injured because of an autopilot car. You will feel that autonomous driving will be much safer. If you care about your well-being while riding any car, get yourself car insurance for overall protection.
